As a wedding planner, I am always looking back through the archives for inspiration and content to share. A few years ago, an amazing group of Michigan wedding vendors and I collaborated on a Wizard of Oz styled shoot and it is so colorful and cheery I just had to share it again. Ladies and gentleman….welcome to Emerald City and enjoy your walk down the yellow brick road!
Every event design, whether it be for a real wedding or a styled shoot, starts with one thing. One thing that is the “light bulb” for the overall plan, it could be a color palette, a venue, a season or in this case…a pair of red high heels!
We wanted every detail in this shoot to be filled with whimsy and color. Some of my favorites were the groom’s rainbow socks, the bride’s bird cage veil, the hot air balloon by the cake table and the spiral ceremony chair set up.
Look at those red flowers!! Heart eyes for days! And that emerald ring? We borrowed that beauty from a jewelry store and I was nervous the entire time that we would do something to it!
You cannot represent The Wizard of Oz and not have an old bicycle, can you? We used the basket on the bike as a holder for the ceremony programs so the guests could take them as they entered the spiral.
This was a REAL cake and it was DELICIOUS! To celebrate when we were done we all grabbed forks and dove in. We even cut slices off for the guys hanging out in the clubhouse at the golf course.
For the dinner table portion of the shoot, the vision was focused more on the Emerald City aspect of the design. We incorporated gold and green in every detail from the chair cushions to the glassware. And we even found an antique oil can to hold up the table number!
A few more of the details that brought it all together:
